The deadline of the call for abstracts has been extended to January 15th 2015. You can still submit the summary of your research via our website. We offer the opportunity to present your work to a large international audience, comprising scientific, industrial and governmental representatives.

FOURTH CLEAN ENVIRONMENT REGULATORS ROUND TABLE AT ISWA WORLD CONGRESS 2015

From 22 to 28 November, Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium led a delegation of Belgian businessmen, women and professionals during an economic mission to Malaysia and Singapore. This mission introduced ISWA World Congress 2015 to a group of waste management industrials and key players in the Asian waste sector.

 

In Singapore, the Flemish waste agency OVAM and ISWA 2015 signed an important Memorandum of Understanding with the National Environment Association of Singapore for the organization of a Clean Environment Regulators Round Table at the 2015 congress. During this round table, decision makers from various authorities will meet behind closed doors to discuss concrete challenges in waste management.

During her speech at the closing reception of the economic mission, Princess Astrid invited the attendees to join ISWA 2015: "The cities of the world can compare notes and look for strategies to mobilize budgets, political will and popular support. Proper waste management, worldwide, would be a huge contribution to climate policy, global health, and the Millennium Sustainable Development Goals. We will meet again, next year, in Antwerp."

Adam Read, our blogger of the month, gives his view on whether or not we should pursue a circular and/or elliptical economy, and the need for revolution –not evolution- in resource use.

Adam Read is Global Practice Director for Ricardo-AEA's Resource Efficiency and Waste Management Practice, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and the Royal Geographical Society.

 


He has more than 19 years of waste sector strategy, service design, procurement and communications experience, both in the UK and overseas, and is a regular industry commentator, author and conference speaker, both in the UK and around the world. He is currently developing the circular economy thinking of a number of clients, and is leading resource risk analysis and closed loop supply chain work with a range of major brands.
