Brussels, 28 January 2016

ISWA's Working Group on Hazardous Waste invites you to the workshop "Hazardous Waste and Circular Economy Package" taking place on 28 January 2016 in Brussels, Belgium.

The meeting is supported by the European Economic and Social Committee.

The workshop evaluates the European Commission's Circular Economy Package and the arising opportunities and implications for the hazardous waste sector. Regulatory needs and the technical role of the hazardous waste sector to ensure high quality/safe recycling are investigated.

Madalina Capruso from DG Environment and Maximilian King from BiPRO provide an overview on the Circular Economy Package and analyse the role of the HW sector within this strategy. Recommendations for better enforcement are developed.

Almut Reichel from EEA and Hugues Levasseur from FEAD present an overview on current EUHW management statistics and raise the question how to improve the accuracy of statistics from an operational point of view.

Paul de Bruycker from ISWA HWWG, Guido Wauters from ISWA HWWG and Luis Palomino from ASEGRE focus on the challenge of improving regulations that fit both the general requirements of waste management and the need to ensure safe HW management.

The issues of chemicals in waste and decontamination are demonstrated through two case studies, the first being on packaging waste and the second on construction and demolition waste with presentations by Piotr Barczak from EEB, Nicolas Humez from HWE and Auli Westerholm from ISWA HWWG.

The meeting is free of charge.
