On Wednesday 27 May, Flemish Minister for the Environment Joke Schauvliege hosted a press conference about ISWA 2015 at the residence of the Flemish government in Brussels. The minister commented on the outstanding results of the Flemish materials management policy.

Philip Heylen, Antwerp vice mayor for culture, economy and city maintenance and chairman of ISWA 2015 explained why Antwerp is the ideal location for the ISWA World congress. Professor Karl Vrancken, chairman of the scientific committee of ISWA 2015, outlined the vision and mission of the congress program.

David Newman, president of ISWA explained the role of ISWA and the challenges we are facing regarding waste management. Finally, Ulf Björnholm, Head of Office of the UNEP Liaison Office to the EU Institutions and the Regional Office for Europe presented the objectives and role of the Global Waste Management Outlook, a joint initiative of UNEP and ISWA which will be officially presented at the ISWA 2015 World Congress
